The Perth Biodiversity Project (PBP) is a local government initiative subscribed to by 32 Perth Metropolitan Region Local Governments and several peri-urban Local Governments. The project is supported by the Western Australian Local Government Association (WALGA) and the Western Australian Government (NRM program) through the Department of Planning/Western Australian Planning Commission.
The aim of the PBP is to support Local Governments to use their functions and powers effectively to protect and manage Local Natural Areas. Since the project began in 2001, PBP has worked to build capacity of Local Governments to plan and manage biodiversity by producing various documents, tools and programs, providing services, funding assistance and awards to assist Local Governments in biodiversity conservation.
