WALGA's Local Biodiversity Program wins at PIA Awards for Planning Excellence

WALGA's Local Biodiversity Programme won an award at the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) Awards on Saturday, 15 November in the category of 'The Hard Won Victory'.  This award is for a planning initiative, effort or leadership that has resulted in positive planning outcomes in the face of difficult or trying circumstances.

The Local Biodiversity Programme has been running for over 13 years and the award judging panel considered that through the program, WALGA has successfully established biodiversity as a valid planning consideration.

The Programme has created a consistent and comprehensive approach to local biodiversity conservation, with 19 Local Governments across southwest Australia (from Geraldton to Albany) and 12 metropolitan Local Governments all developing local biodiversity strategies, plans and reports, which now directly influence land use planning in those areas.
