Local Government Biodiversity Conservation Awards
Local Government Biodiversity Conservation Awards

To mark 2010, the International Year of Biodiversity, the Perth Biodiversity Project, supported by the Western Australian Local Government Association extended its existing biodiversity milestone awards program with three new awards, recognising Local Government efforts in conserving biodiversity with local action.

Winners were announced at the Awards presentation on Friday 6th August at the 2010 Local Government Convention in Perth. The winner of the Excellence in Local Biodiversity Management award was the City of Belmont for progressive revegetation of local natural areas.

Winners of the Excellence in Community Engagement to Support Local Biodiversity Conservation award were the City of Armadale and the City of Cockburn. Both Local Governments demonstrated long term commitment and continuous improvement to their programs which were set up to encourage biodiversity conservation on private land.

The Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale received a Special commendation in recognition of their new stewardship program Healthy Habitats.

Congratulations to these Local Governments who received awards for their commitment to local biodiversity conservation and to all Local Government Biodiversity Conservation Award nominees.
